Unwitnessed moments of minor triumph

The foam on the earpiece of my fancy zoom headset of 2021 has been in a long slow decline over many years and peaked last month when I ended a call with my ear and face covered in flecks of a texturally appalling black film. It was one of those things I normally just learn to live with.
But for like $9 in 6 minutes this situation was resolved. It’s the kind of thing I do for other people all the time but never for myself.

It's 2am and I'm sitting upstairs in the pitch black for the cameras shooting through the windows. The cameras are x distance apart with y field of view and they're set to fire in a sequence that will measure speed and calibrate real position against broadcasted position. The goal is to be able to capture boats at night without a camera being able to see them. Like 5,000 things have to go right and just as the boat fills the frame of the window there is a sudden coming to life, the whirrings and clickings of tiny motors, the deeply satisfying ka-chicks of mechanical shutters opening and closing. Paparazzi but in dead silence.
